How SmartMark Works

Understanding QuantoPick's proprietary stock scoring methodology

What is SmartMark?

SmartMark is QuantoPick's proprietary scoring system that rates every tracked stock on a scale of 0 to 100. It distills multiple technical and fundamental factors into a single, easy-to-understand number — giving you an instant snapshot of a stock's overall health.

A higher SmartMark score indicates stronger positive signals across multiple dimensions. Think of it as a comprehensive "health check" for stocks: the higher the score, the more factors are aligned in the stock's favor.

The 6 Factors Behind SmartMark

SmartMark combines six dimensions of stock analysis into its composite score. Each factor captures a different aspect of a stock's technical health:

Factor 1
Price Momentum
Measures the direction and strength of recent price movement. Stocks showing strong upward momentum score higher. This captures whether a stock is gaining or losing steam in the short term.
Factor 2
Trend Strength
Evaluates the overall trend direction — whether a stock is in a sustained uptrend, downtrend, or moving sideways. Stocks in strong uptrends receive higher scores than those in declining or flat trends.
Factor 3
Swing Patterns
Analyzes short-term price swings to identify bullish or bearish patterns. Bullish swing patterns — where the stock is making higher lows and higher highs — contribute positively to the score.
Factor 4
Moving Average Position
Checks where the current price sits relative to key moving averages. A stock trading above its moving averages suggests strength, while trading below them suggests weakness.
Factor 5
Breakout Detection
Identifies stocks breaking out of consolidation patterns with conviction. Breakouts from tight ranges often signal the start of a new move and are scored positively when confirmed by volume and price action.
Factor 6
Relative Ranking
Compares each stock's signals against all other stocks in the same market. This relative measure ensures scores reflect how a stock performs compared to its peers, not just in isolation.

Each factor is weighted and combined into the final 0-100 composite score. The exact weighting formula is proprietary, but all six factors contribute to every stock's SmartMark at all times.

The 7 Rating Levels

Based on the SmartMark score and factor analysis, each stock is assigned one of seven rating levels. These ratings provide a quick, actionable summary of the scoring results:

RatingLabelWhat It Means
Buy+ Strong Buy The strongest positive signals across all six factors. These stocks show exceptional momentum, strong uptrends, bullish swings, and are outperforming peers.
Buy Buy Positive outlook with solid momentum. Most factors are aligned favorably, indicating the stock is in a healthy technical position.
Accumulate Accumulate Mildly positive signals suggesting a gradual entry opportunity. The stock shows some positive factors but may not yet have full momentum.
Hold Hold Neutral stance with no strong directional signal. The stock's factors are mixed — some positive, some negative — resulting in an indeterminate outlook.
Distribute Distribute Mildly negative signals. The stock is losing some momentum or showing early signs of weakness. Factors are tilting toward caution.
Sell Sell Negative outlook with weak momentum. Most factors are aligned unfavorably — the stock is likely in a downtrend or losing strength across multiple dimensions.
Sell+ Strong Sell The weakest signals across all factors. These stocks show the poorest technical health — strong downtrends, bearish patterns, and underperformance relative to peers.

SmartMark Score vs. Rank

You'll see both a SmartMark score and a Rank on every stock. Here's how they differ:

SmartMark Score (0-100) is an absolute measure of technical health. Two stocks can have similar scores. A score of 82 always means strong signals, regardless of what other stocks are doing.

Rank (#1, #2, #3...) is a relative position among all stocks in the same market. If a stock is ranked #5 out of 199, it has the 5th highest SmartMark score. Rankings shift daily as scores change.

Both are useful: SmartMark tells you how strong a stock's signals are, while Rank tells you how it compares to everything else in the market.

How to Use SmartMark in Your Research

SmartMark is designed to be one useful input in your investment research process. Here are some effective ways to use it:

🔍
Screen for Opportunities

How Often Does SmartMark Update?

SmartMark scores and ratings are recalculated every 5 minutes during market hours. This means the signals you see reflect near-real-time analysis of the latest price data, not stale end-of-day numbers.

Rank positions, trend indicators, swing signals, and breakout flags all update at the same frequency. The screener, stock detail pages, heatmap, and reports all pull from the same live scoring engine.
