SmartMark & Ratings 5 Questions
What is SmartMark?

SmartMark is QuantoPick's proprietary scoring system that rates stocks on a scale of 0 to 100. A higher SmartMark score indicates stronger technical and fundamental signals. It combines multiple factors into a single, easy-to-understand number that helps you quickly assess a stock's overall health.

Think of it as a "health check" score for stocks — the higher the number, the more positive signals the stock is showing across multiple dimensions.

What do the stock ratings (Buy+, Buy, Hold, Sell, etc.) mean?

QuantoPick assigns one of 7 rating levels to each stock based on its SmartMark analysis:

Buy+ (Strong Buy) Strongest positive signals across all factors
Buy Positive outlook with solid momentum
Accumulate Gradual buying opportunity, mildly positive
Hold Neutral stance, no strong directional signal
Distribute Gradual selling may be prudent
Sell Negative outlook with weak momentum
Sell+ (Strong Sell) Weakest signals, most bearish

These ratings are algorithm-generated signals based on SmartMark scoring, not personal investment recommendations.

How is the SmartMark score calculated?

SmartMark uses a multi-factor model that analyzes several dimensions of stock performance:

Price momentum: Recent price movement direction and strength
Trend analysis: Whether the stock is in an uptrend, downtrend, or sideways pattern
Swing patterns: Bullish or bearish swing trading signals
Moving average positioning: Price relative to key moving averages
Breakout detection: Identifying stocks breaking out of consolidation patterns
Relative ranking: How the stock compares to peers in the same market

The exact weighting formula is proprietary, but each factor contributes to the final 0-100 score.

How accurate is SmartMark?

SmartMark is a quantitative tool designed to highlight stocks showing strong technical signals. Like any scoring system, its accuracy varies with market conditions. It tends to perform well in trending markets and may generate more mixed signals during choppy or range-bound periods.

SmartMark should be used as one input in your research process, not as the sole basis for investment decisions. Always combine it with your own fundamental analysis, risk assessment, and financial goals.

What's the difference between Rank and SmartMark score?

SmartMark score is an absolute measure (0-100) of a stock's technical health. Two stocks can have similar SmartMark scores.

Rank is a relative position among all stocks in the same market. If a stock is ranked #5 out of 199, it has the 5th highest SmartMark score in that market. Rank changes daily as scores shift.

Example: A stock with SmartMark 85 and Rank #3 means it scores 85/100 and is the third-strongest stock in its market.

Tools & Features 5 Questions
How do I compare two stocks?

Go to the Compare page and search for two stocks by name or symbol. The tool shows a side-by-side comparison of SmartMark scores, price performance, valuation metrics (P/E, market cap), fundamentals (ROE, debt ratio, margins), and technical indicators.

What is the Market Heatmap?

The Market Heatmap is a visual overview showing all stocks as colored tiles grouped by sector. By default, tiles are colored by daily percentage change — green for gainers, red for losers. You can toggle to color by SmartMark score instead.

Tile sizes represent relative market capitalization — larger companies appear as bigger tiles. You can filter by portfolio and switch between equal-size and market-cap-weighted views.

How do I use the Watchlist?

Click the star icon on any stock card or stock detail page to add it to your Watchlist. Your watchlist is saved separately for each country and stored in your browser's localStorage — no account needed.

The watchlist page shows all your saved stocks with live SmartMark scores, price changes, and trends. You can also view news specifically for your watchlisted stocks on the News page.

What are the Investment Calculators?

The Calculators page offers four planning tools:

SIP Calculator: Calculate returns from systematic investment plans (monthly recurring investments)
CAGR Calculator: Find the compound annual growth rate between any two values over time
Compound Interest: Project future value of a lump sum with compound interest
Dividend Yield: Calculate yield from dividend amount and stock price

All calculations run entirely in your browser — no data is sent to any server.

How do I read the Earnings and Dividend Calendars?

The Earnings Calendar shows upcoming earnings announcement dates grouped by date, so you can see which stocks report this week or month. Use the filter tabs to narrow down to specific timeframes.

The Dividend Calendar shows upcoming ex-dividend dates with dividend amounts and yields. Stocks are sorted by ex-date with a top yield ranking section highlighting the best dividend payers.

Data & Sources 3 Questions
Where does the data come from?

QuantoPick aggregates data from multiple reliable sources:

SmartMark scores & rankings: Proprietary analysis engine (updated every 5 minutes)
Fundamentals & chart data: Yahoo Finance API (P/E, market cap, 52-week range, OHLCV charts)
Company information: Wikipedia REST API (company history, about sections)
News articles: Google News RSS feeds (aggregated by stock and sector)
Earnings & dividend dates: Yahoo Finance calendar data

Is real-time data available?

QuantoPick provides near-real-time data, not tick-by-tick real-time. Prices and SmartMark scores update every 5 minutes during market hours via the CSV data proxy. For the most current price, check the stock detail page which shows the last update timestamp.

For live real-time quotes, we recommend using your broker's trading platform alongside QuantoPick's analysis tools.

Why are some stocks missing data?

Occasionally, some data fields may be unavailable for certain stocks. This can happen when:

- Yahoo Finance doesn't have data for newly listed or very illiquid stocks
- A company hasn't reported earnings recently (missing P/E or EPS)
- Wikipedia doesn't have an article for smaller companies
- The stock is undergoing a corporate action (merger, split, delisting)

SmartMark scores and rankings are always available for all tracked stocks since they come from our own analysis engine.

Disclaimer 2 Questions
Is this financial advice?

No. QuantoPick is strictly for educational and informational purposes. The SmartMark scores, ratings, and all analysis presented on this platform are algorithm-generated signals and should not be interpreted as personalized investment advice, buy/sell recommendations, or financial guidance.

Always consult a qualified financial advisor before making any investment decisions. Past performance does not guarantee future results.

Can I trust the ratings for trading decisions?

SmartMark ratings are algorithm-generated signals based on quantitative analysis. They can be a useful starting point for research, but should never be the sole basis for trading decisions. Consider them as one of many inputs alongside:

- Your own fundamental research
- Risk tolerance and investment horizon
- Broader market conditions
- Company-specific news and events
- Professional financial advice

Remember: no scoring system is perfect. SmartMark highlights patterns, but markets are inherently unpredictable. Always do your own due diligence.
